Galactic
Crazyhorse Mongoose
Capricorn Records
If you were to imagine for a moment that Al Green and The Funky Meters had a love child who played like the Meters and sang like Al, then you would be imagining something very similar to Galactic's funky new album, Crazyhorse Mongoose. This album takes you from the Cissy Strut-esque "Hamp's Hump" through the soul-y/light jazzy "Change My Ways" (parts 1 and 2) with the fluidity of non-neutoneus fluid left to its own devices and gravity's slow pull.
With Galactic's musicians participating in the incestual crossover of the New Orleans music scene and studying under and playing with such bands as Johnny Vidacovich and the New Orleans Klezmer All-Stars, you will lose a bet against the funk if you buy this album.
