Gram Parsons
GP/Grievous Angel
Reprise
If Uncle Tupelo are the fathers of New Country, then Gram Parsons is the granddaddy. Without him there would be no Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris, Flying Burrito Brothers or country rock movement in America. (For this you can either hate him, or love him.) Parsons called this music Cosmic American Music and was not greeted with love or respect by either the rock or country communities at the time. GP was released in 1973, Grievous Angel in '74, and both (conveniently packaged together on one disc) are essential listening to fans of laid back country/rock. Parsons' amazing harmonies with Emmylou Harris bring these beautiful tales of heartache and loss an uplifting spirit missing in so much of the crap being spit out of Nashville today. Amazing music by a brilliant songwriter.
