Laura Love
Fourteen Days
Rounder Records

Man, I just can't think of anything bad to say about Laura Love's albums. She goes into the magician's box with handfuls of folk, funk, rock, blues, celtic and bluegrass, and when they take the dark blanket off of the box, she's put them all together and made a wonderfully unique creature. One of my favorite facets of Laura's singing is that she phrases things in a way that your ear can't quite comprehend, so that you hear a different language. I've gone years without paying much attention to some of her lyrics, and when I finally read what she was actually saying, I was completely surprised.

Fourteen days is a little bit mellower than, say Octaroon, or even Shum Ticky, but it's just as catchy as you'd like it to be coming from the mouth of Seattle's coolest cat lover.

If you haven't got Octaroon yet, get that one first, fall completely in love with it, and buy Fourteen Days. If you do have some of Laura's other albums, This one is a logical addition to your collection.
