No one in music today is consistently putting out music of such quality as Steve Earle. On The Mountain Steve is backed by The Del McCoury Band, one of the best bluegrass bands in the business. The Mountain is a bluegrass album, but just like Steve always made his country music rock, he has made a traditional bluegrass album rock. This is a fun tribute to Bill Monroe, but stamped with Earle's distinctive storytelling song style. The thing that makes this such a great album is that not only does it nod to traditional bluegrass and country, but it updates the sound with a '90's feel. I think Bill Monroe would be proud. And the rest of us should feel blessed.
