I would have never given this album a second thought if not for GAC, the country music video channel. I was half-listening, half-working on a TV Guide crossword puzzle when I heard Neil Young's "After the Gold Rush." I put down my pen and watched the video from beginning to end. Three women who, separately, I've never given much of a listen, really made me listen. It was beautiful, and haunting. I went to work the next day and let the CD play through three times before taking it out of the player.

Track 1 is a sweet little bluegrass tune called "Lover's Return." I had never heard it, but I was immediately taken. Throughout the collection I heard several other songs I recognized. "You'll Never Be The Sun," by Donagh Long, and "Feels Like Home," by Randy Newman. The latter was sung by Bonnie Raitt on the "Michael" soundtrack, and by Chantal Kreviazuk on the "Dawson's Creek" soundtrack. It would be hard for me to choose between Bonnie's version and the trio's.

With harmonies that are gorgeous (and not twangy in the least), I can recommend this collection for anyone. Folk, country, pop, bluegrass -- it's a melting pot of incredible sound. Kind of like taking several foods you sort of like and making the most wonderful feast imaginable. In fact, I have a confession. As I write this, I'm trying to remember what specific instruments I should mention. I know I liked the overall sound, but all I recall are voices.

Voices, and songs as a whole. Trio also pays tribute to artists such as Jennifer Kimball, Tom Kimmel and Del McCourey. Track 3, "Do I Ever Cross Your Mind" was written by Dolly herself, years ago. I don't remember ever hearing it solo, but I really like this arrangement.

My advice? Buy this CD. There isn't a bad song on it, and that's from someone who doesn't really listen to country music -- unless, of course, it's late, and I've got nothing better to do than figure out 37 Down, etc...
