Burnt Taters
Strange but True
Planetary Records

From the first 3 seconds of this album, I thought of Hawaiian Chris Isaac singing with the Old 97's. Or Roy Orbison on a bad day singing country music. And Roy on a bad day is still a killer. By the fourth song, due to the dramatic turn this album takes, I was completely transported back in time to when I was 12 and listened to nothing but Roy Orbison. Except that something is missing. It's like if Roy had a cold and mated with the Swamp Zombies and the baby was raised in the Caribbean.

A few songs later, my nostalgia was over, and I was getting tired of listening. Not that the record sounds bad. That's not the case at all. It just gets a little tiring. Of course, someone once told me that they thought I may be an undiagnosed Attention Deficit Disorder patient.

These guys, straight out of Richmond Vermont, are very cool and clever. If you like the Everly Brothers, Roy Orbison, and offbeat country music all mixed together with some humor and lap steel guitar, or if you THINK that you may like that combination, these guys are for you.

Hi,

Your review of the Burnt Taters is mostly off base. You just don't "get" them I guess.... Because these guys are SPECIAL. I don't know how to explain it to you ... if you can't hear it ... I guess you can't know. But, I'm sure as heck glad I do!!

The band is tight, professional, ..... and original ... despite the obvious influences that you mentioned ... I'm sorry ... but Roy Orbison would be DARN PROUD of what he would hear from "The Taters". To be able to have "That Voice", yet ... somehow ... they are no where CLOSE to being "imitators" ... they are still VERY original in their sound) You're wrong ... it's Roy Orbison on a GOOD DAY. Roy wasn't NEARLY as consistent as these guys are!!!

This reviewer needs a few more music lessons to understand what he has heard!!

Thanks,

Lisa Gilbert ToLisaG@aol.com

the reviewer responds:

um... I mostly LIKED this album. I even recommended it to a wide range of people. I guess you just don't "get" my writing. I'm sorry.
