The first three seconds of this record sound great. The rest of it, unfortunately, isn't as great. If you smell the beautifully-printed liner notes, you'll notice that either the ink or the paper used smells like dust. This is a sharp contrast to the musical contents.
No More Mister Lucky has a full, über-produced sound that straddles the border of cheesy. Parts of it remind me of Robbie Robertson's first two solo albums. Depedning on my mood, I either enjoy listening to it or put something else in the disc player before the first song is over.
I think I'd really like to see Randall play a solo acoustic set. The songwriting is solid. The music is solid as well, but there's too much of it. It's catchy though. I've woken up with a Different song from No More Mr. Lucky in my head for a week solid.
Right this minute, I like the album. But ask me later and I may not. Go out and buy it. At the very least, it'll become one of those albums that you rarely listen to but can't quite bear to part with.
