Mandy Barnett
I've Got A Right To Cry
Sire
This is Patsy Cline channeled through K.D. Lang. A picture of what can happen when the Nashville establishment does not shoot for the pop charts. This is the last project produced by Nashville producer Owen Bradley, and his famous sound is all over this record. Smooth mid-tempo gloss with lots of strings and choruses. Mandy has a nice retro sheen that is coming back into vogue as country music discovers its roots. Not for everyone, but if you miss Patsy and country K.D., this will do you just fine.

Who the hell else does one compare Mandy Barnett to? She has the same overblown, maudlin, pop-sellout feel as Patsy (thanks to Owen Bradley). Patsy's career died when she pancaked into the side of that mountain. Mandy's career died when she and Owen Bradley tried to fuck the corpse.
